George Street, Glasgow

This is a building currently being renovated to serve as student accommodation for the nearby Strathclyde University.

Only today, the front has been removed to show (hard to see) the old sign - of 100 years plus ago! It says along the vertical lines "Robert Sinclair Tobacco Company."

This is right in the heart of the Merchant City where the Tobacco Lords would have conducted their business.

A quick Google search led me to find out that Sinclair came from Orkney to Newcastle and was a fairly big player in the north-east and Scotland. There's some great photos of his vehicles taking cigarettes around the country.

History coming alive for me :)

Weather: cloudy with wind; 11 degrees c; light jacket weather; nice day considerably colder though
