Au revoir, Edinburgh

I still remember the first time I came to Edinburgh: it was 1997 and I was working for Scottish Provident's office in Kendal. I was asked if I could do a couple of days a week in Edinburgh, which I happily agreed to.

I felt like I belonged there the second I stepped off the train, a feeling I've only ever had arriving in one other city (which was New York). Then, in 2000, I had the opportunity to work in Edinburgh, weekly commuting from home. Although it was tough, initially, because I couldn't see my daughters during the week, I look back on that as a happy time and that was largely down to how much I enjoyed the city.

The Minx and I left fairly early, this morning, but as where we were staying was right by the station, there was no great hardship. A five minute walk, and then I took the bags to the train while she grabbed coffees. And then the lovely journey back, watching Scotland go past the train window.
