Black And White
‘Everything looks worse in black and white’
Kodachrome, Paul Simon
At the time
it was clear as day
that I had every right
to walk away
for she was clearly
in the wrong
and I
was in the right
but, given the chance,
she would (not might)
present the scene
in a different light;
so, if invited to sing,
she’d belt out a protest song
noting she was right
and I was wrong
or, if asked for a poem,
she’d recite
(with such clear vision)
her own version of our fight
and make it clear
that it was her
who had every reason
to disappear;
all you’d see would be
a depth of black, a flash of white,
as she padded off
into the night.
