Shagggers Are in Town

SOS or The Society of Shaggers are in town (North Myrtle Beach, SC) for ten days of dancing, partying, and some adult beverages.  One of the latter was placed on the picnic table in the left foreground so he/she would not have to hold it while dancing.  All the people in this photo except the couple on the far left with the seated lady in front of them and the couple by the pole on the right are shagging.  Shagging here is not what some of you have told me it is there, so it was fun to watch them, including seeing the outfits people my age choose when they are celebrating a historic dance (and sometimes on the prowl).  In the scene above, all the open areas on the sides are to the outside and the ocean is about 100 feet to the right of these dancers.  Shagging  is done to "Beach Music," a special genre known to many who grow up with The Shag.  A Google search for shag dancing or Beach Music might be interesting.  You might want to visit the website, www.shagdance.com, We hope to go back during the week to watch more activities.
