inspired by the rhubarb patch
Every garden should have one. This is the fourth garden in which we have planted a rhubarb patch. I hope the other three are still being appreciated by their present owners. This one was only planted about seven months ago. We have resisted the temptation to pull a few sticks, allowing the plant to develop. Once it is established, it will provide us with a variety of puddings in the early summer - rhubarb crumble, rhubarb pie - but nothing quite like the first pulling of young tender sticks, gently poached with a little sugar, and served with custard.
.....and I notice with pleasure that the slugs seem disenchanted with its poisonous leaves.
