Sky really does matter

at least for landscapes, which is my chosen side for photography. I feel uncomfortable in street photography, although I really want to try it. Portraits... I mostly blame the "models" which are my friends that they don't really get what style of photo I want to take but it's just me being bad at communicating. Don't ask me about sports&wildlife, that category has never been an option for me. If you gave me the chance, I'd give my best shot but they just don't fit me. Landscapes are good, landscapes are safe. And for landscapes, the sky really does matter. Dare I say they matter the most. That was my rookie mistake. I never really cared about the sky,  so my focus was on the land and the blue would always be blown out. It's just horrible. Now I don't really care about land, because they're just there, and mostly I'm not in a significant place where what's on ground really matters. Or it is the thought of the world is dumb and I want to fly like a bird.

So this picture was from another sunrise from the school, pre-english lesson. The sky didn't appeal to me at that moment, and to be frankly honest it still doesn't, but I like the picture overall. And yet the sky takes probably 80-90% of the whole thing. The thing is that it's quite subtle. It doesn't give you that sense of satisfaction, but it soothes with its gentle clouds, and warm colours.

Saying that, I should really stop taking pictures of the sunrise. I feel too comfortable with it. Mostly because I've taken so many of them and I know what's going to work and what won't, but also because it's almost too safe. I'm simply in the classroom, taking pictures from the window. And my classmates know the photography side of me so they don't get weirded out when I take my phone and stand in front of an open window for two minutes anymore. I think I haven't posted that many sunrises here though, which is a good thing. A photographer takes bad pictures too, it's real. But a photographer knows which photos to post and which to keep and/or delete, safe from the eyes of social media. And that's how I showed progress, I don't post that often anymore, but when I post they're not mediocre anymore.
