Township Tour

My Christmas present to Dad and Dr. Bob was a township tour from Mfanelo and Thobela with the usual meat and "pap" finale at Mzoli?s Place. They did an excellent job showing us through many places that non-residents never see, as well as pointing out and avoiding the no-go zones. Highlights included the bazaar of produce and textiles around the Nyanga Terminus, the Zamukhanyo crèche where SAEP held its AGM last month, and me eating a boiled chicken?s foot from a warm plastic bucket in someone?s shack (holding up my end of a wager with Mfanelo back when he was still an intern). The only low point in the day, other than Dr. Bob smiting a few curbs with the Honda, was an awkward encounter with a pompous and unsober Rasta clan who threatened to steal our cameras under the right of Jah and then forcibly kicked us out of their neighborhood for fear that the white man was trying to take pictures of their ganja (totally lame). Thankfully, the braai and the rest of the tour were a hit!
