Hawaiian Goose chicks

Also known as the NeNe this is the world’s rarest goose. When Captain James Cook arrived in Hawaii in 1778 it is believed there were 25,000 of these geese. Hunting and introduced predators reduced the population to 30 birds in 1952. The species breeds well in captivity and has been reintroduced. In 2004 it was estimated there were 800 birds in the wild and 1000 in wildfowl collections and zoos. Nice to see these two adding to the numbers.
