I think I will put the tree up

I have seen a pub urging passers by to book early for Christmas (insert C word), heard a radio advert with a C tune. Today I saw a charity shop with a display of C cards and in a garden centre C trees for sale. They might have roots and be in pots and put under a sign saying hedging but I ask who uses C trees as hedging? I know retailers are desperate but this is ridiculous (am I allowed to suggest they should be taken out and shot?).
I do realise that people will be making goods for C markets but I can't work out how retailers will manage to keep this up for 3 months.
I think I need a lie down, no perhaps beer would be better. End of rant.
Apart from the C incident it was a good day. A walk down into Winchester, the road was busy so we went down a cut through we had not been down before to "see where it goes". A few more "I wonder where this goes?" detours later we were wandering around the farmer's market. On the way back we called in the Westgate Museum; we hoped to be able to see where a clock tower we had glimpsed before was. We could not see it but the lady told us it was now part of a bank and the building was originally the old Guildhall; it still strikes 8.00pm to mark the original curfew.
Back home Jane worked on the front garden and I oiled the new door and put up a post box.
This evening the ironing pile beckons.
More beer I think.
