Skye Magic
This sight on the northern peninsula of Trotternish on Skye is probably one of its most familiar and iconic.
We did it today and what a day. Up and off early to get a parking space we climbed to the point where you are pretty much level with the stack - Old Man of Storr and the needle which you can see here. Lovely views too of the Loch below and the sea between the island of Raasay and the mainland mountains of Torridon. In the other direction you could see the whole of the east coast of Trotternish and we think the Assynt mountains in the far distance where we will be going tomorrow.
Most people take this view and then return to the car park below but we were following a five mile circuit which turned out to be six miles. The route took us beyond the end of the Storr and then doubled back to climb up to the ridge along which we walked to the trig point - 719 metres. 360 degree views of the whole of the northern half of Skye.
Skirting back down the only fly in the ointment was the descent down a stream gully, not much fun I can tell you but all worthwhile. A spectacular place to be on yet another amazing day.
We were ready for tea and cake in Portree on the way back. Well earned I think!
The extra is the view from the other end on our descent .
