Diaspora

A different Saturday. With some school friends, two of whom had travelled from the south of England, I joined several hundred others to attend a service in St Giles Cathedral to commemorate the life of Sir Roger Young who had been headmaster at my school for 27 years and had been there all through my time from primary through to 6th year. He had passed away earlier this year at the age of 93.

It was a wonderful service with a mix of beautifully crafted reminiscences and contributions in song, music and poertry from his family and grandchildren. Followed by a reception in the Signet Library.

St Giles is currently hosting the tapestry on the Scottish diaspora. I did not have much time to see it all but it was an interesting parallel with the network of former pupils which stretches across the world.
