Orchids at sunset

More agenda reading this morning, before a quick trip north to see S' mother (the artist). Also visiting her were her older son and his older daughter, back briefly from London. The drive back was better than I had expected for the time of day. Nevertheless there was no way of pausing, or actually stopping, to take a photo of the old barn with less than 30% of the external weather boards still in place, or the blissfully still Puhoi River with superb reflections in the low afternoon sunlight, or the sun glinting off the wings of circling gulls above us as we approached the Harbour Bridge.

We walked into the apartment about 20 minutes before actual sunset behind the Waitakere Range. Following S' suggestion during the minutes that the low sun was blinding, I got low on the deck so that the sun was blocked from me by the frosted glass balustrade. Focussing on the orchid flowers, which became silhouettes to the camera, gave this effect.
