twinned with trumpton

Leaving a relatively ordered house, we headed for Spartans and football on the bikes; sunny but a cool breeze coming in off the sea tempered things.

A couple of hours feigning interest in other people's lives and generally mooching about in the sun before we headed home for the quickest of lunches (another version of Rick Stein's lentil / passata thing of the other day) and then we hot footed it to Stenhousemuir to see SteveandKerry and Uncertain for some lower league football - Stenhousemuir were 2nd bottom and needed to equal or better Peterhead's result to avoid relegation. Nervy stuff.
After a potter about the CBD of Stenhousemuir (an Asda, Farmfoods and a Clydesdale Bank) we stood around in the sunshine as the ground filled up nicely.
I met Gav from work (his daughter's boyfriend has been playing for Stenny this season) and also Ralph who I worked with in 1999-2000; a social day and no mistake!
The game was typical end of season stuff which was odd given Brechin still have a playoff to get through and that Stenny needed to avoid the drop. Brechin scored early on; a penalty. Gav won the half time draw - £320 quid; poor Steve had the number before him! So close...
Steny equalised after an hour but as Peterhead came from 2-1 down to lead 3-2 at Alloa, there was a distinct lack of urgency from the home side and so it was they slipped out of League One.....
We headed home; Alex knackered after his long day; and after a gammon steak he was ready for bed; Tom and I mused a while whilst half watching Britain's (not) Got Talent
