Kelsey

I have been grading student journals for the last four or five days, and these replies really get me. This one from Kelsey stood out. I had given them William Stafford's "You Reading This, Be Ready".

"Today nothing has inspired me, although the day is not over. Songs inspire me often, although I'm not quite sure why music makes me feel the way it does. This isn't the only thing that inspires me. I have an English teacher who goes by the name of Pops. Eventually he'll stumble across this paper. Pops is somebody who inspires me. Not all teachers inspire me, so when a teacher does, it is very amazing. Today, he gave us a short poem, and summarizing this poem, it says to live in the moment."

"Personally, sometimes this is hard for me. At times, I wish, ' Wow, I wish I was already graduated.' I want the future more than I should. I truly believe the reason I crave the future is because I have bumps in the road. I know I shouldn't just want to give up when things go wrong. So maybe if I read this more, it'll help me. So thank you, Pops."
