Sorry, none for you

One of our traditions up here is to go into Ullapool one evening and ear fish and chips overlooking the harbour and we've just returned from doing so. This gull sat in the next table the whole time watching us and never moved!
Thought he made a nice shot with the gorse on Ullapool Hill and Shore Street in the background.

It has been cloudier today so we started later and headed up to the Wednesday craft and food market in Elphin. Chris got Venison sausage and pastrami and we bought a lemon and poppy seed cake. Oh dear we'll have to eat now!

We then did a walk up to the Bone Caves at Inchnadamph. Inchnadamph means field of the stags and two years ago we did see a whole field of stags here. They gather at certain times of year and the caves are up a valley where the traditional red deer calving grounds are. The caves are limestone and are interesting as deer bones up to 45,000 years old have been found plus those of arctic fox, linx and wolf amongst others. The caves were left high after the last ice age and probably used by hunters as shelters at that time, More here: http://www.bgs.ac.uk/discoveringGeology/geologyOfBritain/secretGeology/theBoneCaves.html
Equally interesting you cross a dry river bed further up the valley bottom but about half way down a sizeable river appears, with gushing waterfalls at the base, as if from nowhere. Such is limestone country.

A quick visit to Lochinver to the Highland Stoneware shop, a favourite and then down to Ullapool for a drink at the Ceilidh Place and F&C al fresco with our pal.
Got back as the sun appeared over the bay and the highest tide we have ever seen here, nearly covering all the sand and the grass at the top of the inlet.

Found a needle so started my sewing. It's a picture of an otter, probably the only one I will ever see here!
