In The Occupied Territory

What's in a name?

I thought that I had already Blipped this old pub, but on checking my past entries I discovered I hadn't.
As you can see the bar was established in1821 in a area of Aberdeen called Footdee. It is in the harbour area, and Fittie is an abbreviation of Footdee: the foot of the river Dee. Aka, the mouth of the Dee, where the area is situated.
Or is it?
On modern maps it does show as Footdee, an area encapsulates a much larger area than just the 'fishing village' that one thinks the area is.
But if you look good on much older maps you can see it named as Futty.

Nothing directly related to the Foot of the Dee.
But, whats in a name? as long as the beer is good.
