A day of ruins

After leaving Freya in Durham yesterday evening and arriving at our Shepherd's Hut near York, this was a first full day in Yorkshire, apparently God's own country!

We visited the impressive Whitby Abbey, a source of inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula, and you can certainly see why!

Although Whitby looked a great place for a wander we drove on through and headed towards Rievaulx (pronounced ree-VOH) Abbey which definitely has the Wow factor when you first see it.

We stopped off in Helmsley for provisions and had local cheeses and meat on bread made by the farmer's wife for tea, sitting outside the hut in the sun!!
