Sunshine Smile

Here's Ibrahim al-Kerdany a famous Egyptian who presented the breakfast show on Egyptian TV for many years. He is still recognised everywhere he goes, including at Undercovercairo's farewell party tonight by a younger generation of Egyptian. I asked him what it's like and he said that now it is mostly pleasant and gratifying but sometimes intrusive although he can sometimes go for a walk and not be recognised. At the height of his fame, he said it was absolutely crazy. 'It's a heavy price to pay,' I commented. 'A very heavy price,' he replied. He's a pleasant chap and reminisced about the hey day of Cairo in the seventies and eighties, including the influence of Egyptian cinema throughout the region that made the country's accent and dialect universally understood across Arabia.
