Original Mums and Dads

In the diary it said: “Original mums and dads for lunch.” Which meant Fiona, Peter, Su, Rodge, Nancy and Scott. (Alison couldn’t come.) The mums met when they were still mums-to-be, at the Bellevue Medical Centre Ante-Natal Classes back in the spring of 2001. The dads joined in a year or so later. And we’ve all been in close contact ever since, with and without the children.

It was a long lunch. A great afternoon and evening. All sorts of ground covered. Including a discovery that the Family section in Saturday’s Guardian nearly always annoys all of us. There are plans clicking into place for imminent fiftieth birthday parties. And all the time there were kids roaming around, in varying ages and quantities.
