If the eyes are the windows to the soul...
... my soul is but a murky puddle!
When I had my annual contact lens check on Saturday, it was with a new (to me anyway) optician. We went through all the usual blurb: how often do you wear them, how long for, how often do you change them, how do you clean them blah blah blah. And then she said, "And you do know to absolutely never get them wet?". Erm... I vaguely remember someone else with lenses mentioning it to me years ago, but I've never heard it from my optician.
At any rate, I wear goggles when I'm swimming as the chlorine (or some other chemical) tends to make my eyes sore.
Except today, I was unprepared!! We have an excellent sports facility at work, only a couple of years old, with a fantastic pool (moveable floor and everything - no slides though...). Yesterday I noticed that, in addition to the aqua class I go to on a Wednesday lunchtime, there was another one this lunchtime. I signed up in a jiffy. Aqua is in shallow water, so I don't need to wear goggles as there's not much splashing. It's strange, I've always loved the water (Dad used to take me swimming when I was little) but never liked getting my face splashed.
But today's class was mis-labelled. It was deep aqua, ie aqua in deep aqua! So much more hard work, effort and stamina required. Bear in mind it's like normal aqua but you're also trying to keep yourself from sinking - not very well in my case... And so much more splashy water as you try to save yourself from drowning while keeping both arms up in the air, holding polystyrene dumbells and swirling yourself round using only your legs. You think it's funny??? Next time you're in a pool, try it!
So, lots of water and no goggles means very sore eyes for me. Took my lenses out as soon as I got home, but I think only a darkened room will cure the head/eye-ache.
Aqua tomorrow lunchtime. The real deal. No goggles required :-)
That's if I can move in the morning. After two months of nothing more strenuous than a stroll in the sunshine, I suspect I'm going to hurt...
