A weevily good day!

I've been beetle hunting today at the nature reserve with one of the top coleopterists in the country. We found quite a range, from tiny flea and pollen beetles to spectacular longhorns, but the group I found most fascinating were the weevils. Here is Cionus alauda, a figwort specialist that I've never seen before. The extra photo is not brilliant, but it shows a species of nut weevil, Curculio nucum, that is not often seen as an adult though the holes made by its larvae in hazel nuts are well known.
