Fido is home
He seems to have come home from kennels with an increased appetite.
I fetched him this morning, and we ended up spending a good part of our day sorting this out, as on the way home, I hit a rock on the verge (hidden in grass) trying to get out of the way of an oncoming vehicle on a narrow road, and split the side wall of the front tyre.
Fortunately, I was only about a mile from home, so W came out, and we took Fido home in his car, then returned to effect a repair. Like so many modern vehicles, the car is not fitted with a spare, or even a jack and a wheel brace. (It will be shortly, as after this little adventure, I have ordered these items from ebay!) Initially, we tried the tyre repair kit that comes with the car, but the split was too big for this to work. Then we tried to take the wheel off, only to find that the wheel brace supplied with W's car is the wrong size for my wheel nuts! In the end, we had to get out the RAC to remove the wheel, so that we could take it in to get a new tyre, and then we brought it back to the car and the kind RAC man refitted it! By this time, it was nearly 5pm - what a waste of a day.
It's raining again now, so the weeds, which were already growing rapidly, will be springing up further overnight - I think that will have to be my job for tomorrow.
