M6, Shap, 9:38 a.m.

What a horrible drive back from Keswick. It took just over 7 hours, and the weather was dreadful. 
I took this (I wasn't driving!) as we were going over Shap at 9:38 a.m., and it looks like night!
Further south and a combination of roadworks and a couple of accidents meant we crawled for a couple of hours. Not as bad as the poor souls heading north though. They were at a total standstill in places with many people out of their cars and just wandering about carrying children and walking dogs. That was probably just before 1 o'clock, and the traffic warnings that were online said that that section heading north between J17 and J18 was totally closed and would be so until about 5pm. We did see that they had erected some screens, so there must have been a horrible accident.
We're home now, safe and sound, but I feel for those caught up in the accident and the traffic. 
It's going to be a ready meal and an early night tonight.
