The tŷ bach.
The fully functioning stone tŷ bach (little house) at Capel Soar-y-Mynydd. This grade II* Methodist chapel is possibly the most remote in Wales. Check out the map to see exactly where.
Built in the 1820's to serve a scattered population of sheep farmers and their families, it had a congregation of just 2 in 1968. Things have apparently picked up as there was a 42 seat coach of chapel-goers from Pembrokeshire during my visit and it seems there is now a service every Sunday. Inside it still has wooden box pews, squeezed into every angle to maximise the number of seats available. It also served as a school until 1947.
The adjoining house is now empty but looks to be in good condition externally at least.
