A candle for a friend
This is the magnificent brass holder for votive candles in the monastery dedicated to Mary the Mother of God on the outskirts of Kolimbari in Western Crete. The candle on the left is the one I lit today for my friend Hugh, a priest in the Scottish Episcopal Church and former Rector of Holy Trinity Dunoon. His death on Sunday after a short illness was not entirely unexpected, but being so far from home and knowing that he'll not be there when we go home is particularly difficult.
He was a good man and a good friend. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
