Synchronised preening?

Not really - this is last year's huge cygnet in the background and this year's new male swan in the foreground. The cygnet was on the island before the male swan joined him and the adult clearly didn't think it was a good idea to try to chase him away. I didn't spend as long at Blackford Pond as usual - my companion wasn't as fascinated as I am by everything there. The moorhens seem to be nesting up the tree, so am pinning my hope on them to produce some offspring. There was also a coot - the first one I've seen this year. Maybe a mate will arrive. Otherwise it was the usual gulls and a few tufted ducks.
