Male stag beetle

I just looked out of the window this evening and there was a magpie tossing this poor stag beetle in the air, letting it drop and repeating the process. Goodness knows how long it had been doing it for. I went out and rescued the beetle and returned it to its home in the garden. On checking just now it seemed fine. I can't protect it 24/7!
