SS Great Britain

The picture is the hull of the old ship in its original dry dock in Bristol, now made into a museum, a glass sea has been created so the hull underneath is being preserved by huge drying machines and It enables you to walk around it and view Brunels Balance Rudder the first of its kind now used all round the world.
Looking up you can sea the sides of the ship as if you are underwater, from above looking down there is water on top of the glass.
The ship was designed by Isambard Brunel the worlds first Ocean Liner, it sailed 32 times around the world.
Between 1843 - 1851 Bristol - New York.

From 1852 the liner was converted to an Emigrant Clipper, and transported thousands of immigrants to Australlia.
It was then changed in 1882 to a Windjammer and then used as a merchant sailing ship.
Then as a store ship in the Falkland Islands until she was scuttled in 1937.
In 1970 the Great Britain was lifted on to a floating barge and brought back to her original dry dock where she has been restored and thousands of people visit her every year.

We are in Bristol staying with Robs Sis, lovely time.
