King Goat
I spent a couple of hours working out the logistics of doing the Samaria gorge walk. Although we have a car, at the end of the walk you need a ferry and then bus, which doesn't go back to the start! To get a taxi from Sougia where the bus drops you will cost about 60 euros and you need to pre-book as there are only two in that village! I've bitten the bullet and booked a tour bus and guide!
Having sorted that out, we spent a couple of hours on Afrata beach which is just down the hill from our apartment. By 4pm it'd got a bit overcast so we decided on a ride through Rodopos to Rodopou which is at the northern most tip of Crete and our peninsula. It's a rough track and on the way back we got a puncture - luckily there was a good spare and after a sweat I managed to change it.
It's pretty barren land and no houses there, only the deserted village of Diktynna which we failed to locate. However, the effort wasn't wasted as near a deserted building many goats were lurking. The blipfoto shows this goat which is the largest I've seen since being in Crete - and the whole island is covered with them. No doubt, King of The Goats!
