Shapinsay strata
I headed over to the island of Shapnsay today because I hadn't been for quite a while, and because one of (or the only) serious bird-watcher there is off the island and it seemed a good idea to check what was about.
For birds it started with about 26 kittiwakes on the harbour wall at Balfour. At Mill Dam reserve there were about 800 wigeon , some teal and mallard, about 20 snipe and 6 black-tailed godwits.
