Deon Jackson - Love Makes the World Go Round (1965)
I discovered this Northern Soul favourite via Iggy Pop, who played it on his Iggy Pop Confidential show on 6 Music in July 2015. Deon Jackson came from Iggy Pop's home town of Ann Arbor MI and recorded this, his biggest hit, in Detroit MI with producer Ollie McLaughlin and arranger Dale Warren. There's a Motown influence with Deon at times sounding a little like Smokey Robinson. It came out on the Carla label in December 1965 (and in the UK on Atlantic in February 1966). UK artist Kiki Dee would have a minor US hit in 1971 with her cover of the song.
