It's Baaaccckkkk!!!
Just when we thought the summer could go on for ever, we get a reminder that winter is on the way . . .
Halloween is just six weeks over the horizon and, as with every other holiday or pseudo-holiday, shopkeepers are already dipping their greedy paws into our pockets, extracting loot for pumpkins, kitschy ornaments and ever-more costly outfits for the kids to wear during candy-begging forays deep inside the deep, dark hearts of their neighbourhoods.
Assuming we survive all this fun without another recession, manufacturers and retailers have a clear run to their biggest bonanza of the year - Christmas!
Is it possible for capitalism to thrive without a selling 'event' every month or so . . . AND can consumers survive with them?
