LYING LOW

This female pheasant was trying not to be seen. I was congratulating myself on spotting her, but when she got up and moved away just after this photo, she had two youngsters with her who I hadn't seen at all, so I think she won!

Such tragic news today. Those poor people, both those who have perished and those who survived but have lost everything. It's heartbreaking, and appalling to think it might have been avoided. And once again, despite everything, the members of the public services are absolute heroes.
