Porridge, Eucharist, Toll Roads and Aged Steaks
Last full day in Portugal and a full one it was. We woke up knowing that we were to leave Mourão and make our way to Lisbon, but before we did that we had an appointment with a special Mass in the local main church led by L with whom we had a delightful dinner on Monday. This was a whole new level of cultural experience due to the packed program of baptisms, first communions and eucharist and all that in Portuguese, not yours truly's first language, or second third or even fourth. However, it was very enjoyable and I particularly enjoyed the canticle 'Hallelujah' sung exactly to the tune of Leonard Cohen's song of the same name, On balance, I prefer the Jeff Buckley version, but it was, nevertheless very enjoyable.
Once we had walked back down to M & D's appartment, it was pack up and drive to the big city where we were staying in an upmarket appartment just a mile or so from the airport, and out for a walk along the river and a great steak dinner at Butchers. Back now to wind down and ready for the flight back tomorrow morning for a couple of days back in Sutton!
