Giant Shallot

In the garden here in Maleny Queensland are a few tropical shallot plants which have gone to seed.

Here's a seed head centre-stage and though it is pretty large, it's nothing like as big as it seems in this shot. I find seeds and seed-heads interesting and this one paarticularly complex. The soft-focus pink behind it is an English azalea - in sub-tropical Queensland!

I drove up from Brisbane to Maleny early this morning to get ahead of the rush to the beaches of the Sunshine Coast, dropped my bags off in my rental house, then sat in one of my favourite cafes with a coffee and fruit toast watching the tourists arriving.
