Diary of an Edinburgher

Ball action

It took me about three hours to get along to the gym today. I happened to sit down to have breakfast, watch the news, then the tennis, then had a snooze. But I got there in the end.

JR was there at 11am, when there was a minute's silence 'nationwide' for the Grenfell fire victims. But it was ignored in the gym, so she pointed it out to the staff, and the music was silenced and some people stood still.

I was also rather stroppy. I get SO annoyed at sweaty men (usually) dripping all over the equipment and wandering off, ignoring the signs asking everyone to please wipe them down. Today I watched one of the usual suspects who dripped on the bike, then wandered off to the cross trainer without a care in the world. I could not contain myself. When I finished my half hour, I went and handed him a piece of the disinfectant cleaning cloth. He was taken by surprise and actually said, 'Thank you'. Whether he takes the hint remains to be seen.

This afternoon we took Archie up the hill and used the new ball thrower that Elizabeth gave us. What fun that was. Except that JR needs more practice - most of her balls landed in the gorse bushes.

Later, a new prospective walker arrived. We actually met him while sitting outside at the pub the other night and mentioned 'Borrow My Doggy'. Charming young man, who loves running. He has run up Blackford Hill three times today! Not sure if Archie would find that much fun - no sniffing every lamppost - but if the young man is keen, we'll give it a go. Sorry, Arch.
