Bumps in the Road

Adieu

After catching up on lots of much needed sleep, and spending a 10/10 day at Singapore's museum, I left Nikki and the kids at the Qantas check-in desk, giving them massive hugs and kisses before sloping off to my own separate departure gate.

In some ways the farewell wasn't too bad. Despite preparing them all week, the kids didn't quite comprehend that we'll be apart for next five weeks. Equally, I was up against the clock to catch my own flight so there was no time for anyone to milk the goodbye.

The next few days will be a whirlwind for me as I'll be spending them in Bangalore. However, I'm sure the enormity of flying solo will hit me when I return to Edinburgh at the weekend.

No 5am wake-up calls. No kisses and cuddles from the family. No hearing them laugh. No hearing then bicker and cry. No guilt about working late. No reason to go home.  At least we have Skype.

Be safe and enjoy the next five weeks with your Australian family!

Over to Nikki...
