Sunrise on the Shortest Day
It was very windy and cold at Beacon Point this morning, I could hardly stand on my feet, the gusts of wind were so strong!! After breakfast I headed to town to do a few jobs, then home for lunch. As it is Wednesday I am picking up little 'h' from school, take her to Jazz dance, then home to Luggate for a family dinner.

The second extra photo is of my father's family. My Uncle headed off to the war. He was injured, losing an eye, and a leg. He became a basket maker, and lived to the age of 83.
Pan Am airways flying boat service from Hawaii to Auckland began via Canton Island.

Britain creates 'The Home Guard'.
Dunkirk 9 day evacuation begins. A total of 861 ships were used to evacuate around 338,000 people. The evacuation was known as the Miracle of Dunkirk.
Britain begins food rations. This included tea, jam, cereals, biscuits, eggs, milk, cheese and canned fruit. Other items added to the list were meat, candy, gasoline, clothes, paper and soap.
