Gloomy Day and a Pop of Colour

Woke to rain, which is great for the low lake.  I took this photo first thing at the jetty.  From there I went to morning tea with my photography friends, and home for lunch.  In the afternoon I walked down to the park, to clock up my 8,000 daily steps.  (8,236). 

Blip No. 1941

I was born in 1941, when my family were living in Hotoriu, in the Waikato.  Our house (extra 1), is no longer there.  In those days lots of street photographers were out and about, and this photo (extra 2) was taken in the main street of Hamilton.  My brother is on the little seat, I am in the pram.

War News  :  (Extra 3).  Hawaii was bombed in a surprise attack by the Japanese carrier forces on the US Navy  :  NZ declared war on Japan  :  Charles Upham wins the Victoria Cross  :  Formation of the NZ Women's Auxiliary Air Force  :  NZ pilot saves a Scottish village called Cowie.  His spitfire stalled over the village and he managed to clear the village when his plane was thrown into a tail spin, and crashed into railway sidings.  In 2007 a memorial in his honour was unveiled in Cowie  :  Rudolf Hess parachuted into Scotland  :  Churchill launches the 'V' for Victory campaign  :  RAF equipped with radar.
