Red House Roof (Day 6)

Having spent 5 days taking the old roof off, removing many rusty nails, and replacing rotten planks, I finally got to do something more constructive today.  The first strip of underlay was placed in position. This is a waterproof membrane that will catch any condensation forming under the metal roof. It also provides back up for the main roof above it; always good to have because in winter weird things can happen (ice dams on the roof, snow blowing in under the roof...).  Two more strips tomorrow will take me up to and over the roof ridge. Then it's time for the battens.
Today was the Summer Solstice, the longest day.  We are 62.71° north and today we had 20 hours 6 minutes between sunrise and sunset. That's nearly 17 hours more than we have at Midwinter when the day is only 3 hours 17 minutes long!
The extra shows the village a few minutes after midnight om the longest day of the year.  The sun is down but still lighting up the sky. The darkest time is at about 01:00 so it will get a little darker, but it'll be a few weeks until we see the stars again.
