My husband and Marilyn Monroe

D is off on the train to London to see Sarah - it's her birthday today and she will be at work, but they are meeting tonight beneath the clock at Waterloo Station.

Marilyn had three husbands, so D read out loud to me as I took this photo. As well as being extremely photogenic, she was an interesting woman - an icon of American popular culture and the subject of films, plays, operas and songs, her image used to advertise everything from shampoo to credit cards. Art historian Gail Levin says that she may have been "the most photographed person of the 20th century."
