I Camb home

These South Sudan trips are so totally immersive they feel like a parallel universe. I was only away for three working weeks but it felt a lot longer.

The return journey was mainly spent struggling stomach-wise as no aisle seats were available, and wondering whether the UK has a functioning government yet.

As it appeared constantly on the TV screen, I also spent a large chunk of time wondering why, in a video for tourism in Kenya, the following line which was accompanied by images of fully veiled Muslim women presumably on the Indian Ocean coast somewhere, was deemed to be a good thing: 'A people that take any visitor back centuries'. Not the progressive vision of itself that Kenya usually likes to sell.
