Day 23 - Clearing up
Using a quickly screwed together old wooden planks, constructed a slide to take down the old tiles which landed on an old mattress on the ground and were then stacked directly on to pallets. Actually very quick and effective.
Angie and my duties during the day are limited to taking part in such actions but mainly to ensuring copious supplies of bottled mineral water and soft drinks as well as a warm lunch. Monday to Wednesday, they have to put up with my culinary efforts which generall include things like warming up various German sausages and serving with chips and fresh salad. Or maybe a frozen pizza whacked in the oven and if I am very lazy, get a kebab or half a roast chicken (Tuesdays) from shops in Ottobeuren. Needless to say they enjoy days when Angie is home better.
However the hard part of the day starts when they pack up in the evening, clearing away all the bits and pieces ejected from the roof including loads of nails which have fallen out of the old boards.
Today the old girl was put i to action having to cart away the pallets of old concrete roof tiles- A pallet had around 250 tilesand not even the rear hydraulic lift could get the pallets off the grond. So had to use the pallet jack to help raise it and then the JD could hold them up while I moved them to an out of the way place. Unsensational for all you Blipers equipped with staplers, 4WD tractors with servo steering and front loaders but for my 1965 John Deere, a hard task, well done.
