The Big Red Chairs

As part of the 150 year celebrations, all of Canada's National Parks are free this year and 'Big Red Chairs' have been strategically placed all over the park. Today we found our first ones overlooking Lake Edith!

This morning started with a 10 mile very slow run for me on the Jasper discovery trail. I took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up at Pyramid Lake which was nice for a photo! During the run I came face to face with two dears and a caribou. We all just stopped in our tracks and stared at each other, for what felt like an age, before they moved off. I was too in awe to take a photo with my phone and I didn't want to scare them.
After breakfast we headed to Lake Annette and on the way there we spotted a bear walking alongside the road which was very exciting. Loads of people were stopping and following it trying to get photos which shocked us. There are warnings everywhere asking people to leave the bears alone as there have been several attacks as the bears get scared.
Lake Annette was beautiful and we couldn't believe the colour of the water, turquoise, when the sun came out from behind the clouds and how crystal clear it was. We walked around the entire lake with Olivia timing us with how long it would take - we'd all placed bets at the start (just one of the tricks we have to use to motivate Dex to do a boring old walk!). They soon became completely absorbed by the wildlife and the abundance of blue dragonflies.
My favourite quotes of the day:

Dexter: "Mummy take a photo, take a photo!"
Olivia: "Canada is such a beautiful country."

The day ended with swims in the motel pool and a dip in the hot tub. Bliss!
