The Fourth of July

Went down to the beach for a short time to see modern and vintage military aircraft flyover to celebrate the holiday.  As you can see from the photo looking up the beach, it was wall-to-wall people.  The extra  photo is a band called Blackwater Rhythm and Blues who played in a late afternoon festival for the 4th of July.
The very shot story that follows has nothing to do with the photos, but I wanted to share it since it is about today.

Eighty years ago today, the two people whose union gave life to my sister and me were married early on Sunday morning in Emporia, VA.  The got off work at McLellan’s Five and Dime in Wilson, NC near midnight on July 3rd, and drove to Virginia.  When they banged on the door at the home of a Justice of the Peace, he stuck his head adorned with a nightcap from an upstairs window to ask what they wanted.  He responded to their request to be married by performing a civil ceremony in his living room with his wife as witness about 6:30 AM on July 4, 1937.
