1636 being lifted

A fine day on the railway at Wittersham Road, all the equipment worked well after a couple of turns where the block instrument had been playing up and not allowing a token to be removed.

Had some visitors in the afternoon when Susan, her mum, niece and husband came into the box just in time to see the last crossing move of the day. Doreen did well, at 91, to get up and down the 11 steps to the box.

There's a bit of a motive power shortage at the moment. These two Great Western engines in the yard at Rovenden are both undergoing repair. Foxcote Manor, 7822, has had valve problems but things seem on the move now. 1638 had a hot axle box which, as you can see, is being attended to. These massive chains, attached to a crane, have lifted the body to allow access to the axle beneath. Seems slightly risqué to me lifting up a shirt tail to look underneath.
