Generosity
Who knew The Card Company could provide such wisdom?
My normal reaction to these types of lifestyle signs... "we do hugs, we do sorry" or "when the storm comes dance in the rain" is what a load of vomit inducing drivel. But then I realise that I often agree with the sentiment, but my family upbringing means I instinctively react by looking down on things like this as the sort of thing only left-leaning liberals or socialists who are happy to show emotion would say or own. I dread to think what I would be like now if I hadn't met Jesus!
This sign struck me because it's so counter-cultural to our nature. We want to accumulate stuff. Stuff makes us feel (or we think it will) secure. But weirdly we also feel freed-up when we've had that big clear out!
At certain times in my life I've had nothing, but it's still been more than the vast majority of the world's population. But ironically those times have been when I've been most generous - because God showed me the power of giving. I adore giving. Yes money but also time, help, skills and love. Time is I believe now our most valuable asset. Stuff and money can never replace time. If we were brave enough to have less, give away more and allow ourselves more time, happiness surely wouldn't be far away.
Thankful today for:
- God's gift of time to me over the last 18 months of being sick
- Being able to give and being blessed by others giving to me
- Jesus changing me from fate of pomposity, arrogance and condescension!
