Cairns to Fitzroy Island
Thanks to all who commented on and starred yesterday's photo. I've had problems with uploading today's photos and I'm really tired so forgive me for not replying individually.
Today the day started cloudy and with the threat of rain, which eventuated about an hour before the ferry back off the Island. The main is the view from my hotel room window just before I set out for what turned out to be quite a long day out to Fitzroy Island which is 45 minutes by fast cat from Cairns. The island is all National Park with a fair bit of tropical rain forest vegetation and fig trees. I didn't climb right to the top as my knee wouldn't cope with the steep ascent but apparently the vegetation on the other (more windswept) side of the island is quite stunted according to a lady I spoke to who had done this. I took close to 270 photos today and the main and 5 extras are in chronological order dotted through the day. One is of an absolutely huge spider sitting in a web on the 'secret garden' walk into the rain forest part. I'm too tired now to explain the others but the photos give an idea of what the island is like.
I'm still having problems uploading so will try to publish the main and 2 extras that seem to have uploaded so far and will try and upload the others in the morning... Well, I was woken from a deep sleep just before midnight by an almighty crash and for a moment didn't know where I was!!! A large mirror had unstuck itself from the wall and come crashing down. There was glass everywhere. Someone from housekeeping had to come and clear up all the mess so now I'm having a middle-of-the-night cup of tea and have just managed to upload the other photos. Hope I might eventually manage to get to sleep again.
