Around Cairns today
After my dramas in the middle of last night (explained in yesterday's blip) I was glad to take it a bit easy today and just wander around Cairns. I went to the Art Gallery where this main photo is part of their 'Lei It On' exhibition of contemporary cultural practice from the Torres Strait Islands. The ornate 'jewellery' ranged from the more modest to the absolutely huge and elaborate. This one is somewhere in the middle of the extremes.
The first extra is also from the art gallery and is a part of an collection called 'Bitter Sweet' by Daniel Boyd who is a Sydney based artist born in Cairns. I would describe his style as somewhere between Pointillism and Aboriginal dot paintings.
Walking past the library I heard the noisy chatter of bats in a large fig tree - just a few of which feature in the second extra.
