More Rudbeckia
I know I have done a lot of pictures of these rudbeckias, but they are so fascinating, beautiful and cheerful that I can't resist. The seed head on the left is actually growing a new set of petals, while the one on the right looks as round and puffy as a pom pom.
We are leaving tomorrow morning to drive up to Oregon, via a night in Ashland to visit our old friends in Corvallis. There seem to be a lot of details needing attention before we go and a lot of loose ends that I have decided to leave dangling until we get back.. Bear with me if comments are few and far between for a week or so....
Yesterday's 'mystery shot was a developing rose hip. This particular rose...Coretta Scott King...does not ever develop the familiar red bulblike structure that most roses do, but just makes a mass of thread like 'seeds' inside the guard leaves which open up and thicken.
One of the dangling loose ends is that I think we have decided on a new front door, but will wait until we get back to order it. After looking at pictures of literally hundreds of front doors in every imaginable configuration and combination of materials, this one jumped out at me. I'm not good at ordering anything from a picture so am hesitant to take the plunge. In a complete departure from what Dana thought we would chose, it is metal and glass. They are made in Los Angeles so we could wait until we are down there in August and go look at it, but that isn't Wally our style either. Our contractor, David said he will put it in, now all we have to do is talk to the house painter and the sheet metal guy who is going to clad the trim on the eaves to foil the woodpeckers. And we thought we wouldn't have to do anything to this house when we bought it....
All houses are a work in progress for us. The last one was still progressing when we sold it after forty five years. We don't have forty five years for this one....
